Two browser-based AI companion sites, both 18+, both marketed as uncensored within their content rules, both asking for a subscription before you learn anything useful. Candy.ai and OurDream AI look similar from the outside. The differences show up in the credit math, the memory, and what happens when you stop paying.

If you want polished selfies fast and you want to spend as little as possible to try a paid tier, Candy.ai is the easier sell at $3.99 per month on the yearly plan. If you want to burn through video, group scenes and a large character library, OurDream AI at $9.99 per month yearly gives you ten times the monthly credits for roughly two and a half times the money.

Core difference: pictures versus volume

Candy.ai sells you a face. The image generator is the best part of the product: consistent faces across generations, strong realism, and selfies that reportedly render in under five seconds according to third-party reports. That speed matters when you are paying per image.

OurDream AI sells you a world. Unlimited messages on paid plans, multi-character roleplay, clips up to a minute, voice calls, and a community library the homepage claims tops 11 million characters. Whether that number holds up exactly, the library is genuinely large.

The catch is that OurDream charges for almost everything beyond text. Every image, video, call and narration eats dreamcoins. Candy does the same with tokens, but the allowance is smaller, so the habit of paying extra arrives faster.

Character building

Candy.ai gives you a detailed creation form and a fast setup. It is not shallow, but it is built for people who want a character running in two minutes. Extra custom characters reportedly cost around 10 tokens, which is a tenth of your monthly allowance. Users have flagged that as a quiet tax on the hobby.

OurDream AI goes deeper. You get appearance controls, personality fields and scenario framing, and creating a chatbot costs 10 dreamcoins. That is the same relative hit as Candy's 10 tokens, but against 1,000 coins instead of 100, so it stings less. The community library means most people never build from scratch anyway. You find a public character and tweak it.

Group roleplay is the feature Candy does not clearly match. On OurDream you can pull multiple characters into one scene by clicking a portrait or typing @name. If you want a scenario with three adults in one room, OurDream is the only one of the two that documents it.

Images

Candy.ai wins here. Faces stay consistent across generations, which is the single hardest thing to get right in AI companion imagery, and the realism holds up. The trade-off is cost and volume: 100 tokens buy roughly 25 images at 4 tokens each. Extra tokens reportedly start around $9.99 per 100, which works out to about $0.40 per extra image.

OurDream AI produces excellent realistic and anime images. Two standard images cost 10 dreamcoins, so 1,000 coins buy about 200 images. Extra coins are reported at $11.99 per 1,000 by a third party, which puts an extra image at roughly $0.06. That is not a small gap. If you generate pictures constantly, OurDream is six or seven times cheaper per image.

But you cannot keep them. When an OurDream subscription lapses, generated images and videos are blurred. Candy lets you keep what you made; it just expires unused tokens at the end of the billing period if you cancel.

Video, voice and audio

OurDream AI is the stronger multimedia product. Video runs 100 dreamcoins per five seconds and clips go up to 60 seconds. Ultra mode costs 200 coins. Audio is an add-on at 20 coins per second. Your monthly 1,000 coins cover roughly 10 short clips, which is not a lot once you start experimenting.

Candy.ai offers image-to-video at about 12 tokens, so 100 tokens cover roughly 8 clips. One review dates the Live Action feature to February 2026, and it burns tokens around three times faster than images. Voice notes run about 3 tokens per minute. Live calls are still beta.

Voice quality is a wash. Both sit around 8.2 and 7.9 in our notes, which is to say usable and clearly synthetic. OurDream charges 50 dreamcoins per minute for voice calls and 5 coins per paragraph for narration.

Chat, memory and roleplay

Neither platform is good at long-term memory. Candy.ai scores 7.2 and OurDream 7.9. Storylines on Candy reportedly reset after 48 to 72 hours, and Premium Plus adds 20 memory slots. A chat reset wipes memory entirely. OurDream holds context a bit longer, but you will still repeat yourself.

OurDream's Genius chat models cost 1 coin per reply. That is cheap, but it is another line item. Candy keeps text chat unlimited on paid plans, which is the one place it does not nickel and dime you.

Older sites still quote Candy at $12.99 monthly and $5.99 on annual. Those figures are out of date. The current page says $13.99 and $3.99, and the three-month plan is $26.97 billed quarterly. Premium Plus is the odd one: the price only appears at checkout, which makes it hard to compare before you commit.

Active Candy users reportedly spend $25 to $60 a month, some as much as $80. That is the token system doing its work. It is also the most common user complaint about the platform.

Dreamcoins do not expire, and OurDream publishes a full coin price list. That transparency is worth something. One site claims OurDream caps messages at 500 or 2,000; the official pricing page says unlimited, and we go with the vendor's own wording.

Do the math on the entry prices honestly. Candy's yearly plan is cheaper in absolute terms. But $47.88 buys you 1,200 tokens a year, about 300 images. OurDream's $119.88 buys 12,000 dreamcoins plus the annual bonus, roughly 2,400 images. If you generate media weekly, Candy's cheap plan is the expensive habit.

Free tiers

Candy's free tier is a demo, not a product: 5 messages total, one character, one image. OurDream's free tier charges 1 dreamcoin per message, gives you no media, and does not let you buy coins. Both exist to show you the door.

Neither free tier tells you much about memory or image quality, because you cannot generate enough to judge. Treat both as a login screen with a sample.

Privacy and safety

Candy.ai is operated by EverAI Limited in Malta, which puts it under GDPR. Data is encrypted in transit but there is no end-to-end encryption. The policy says Candy may train on de-identified prompts with human review, and account data is kept up to three years after your last activity. Billing shows as EverAI, not Candy.

OurDream AI is run by Dream Studio USA, Inc. in Delaware. It encrypts data at rest and in transit and uses SOC 2 Type 2 hosting. Its homepage claims end-to-end encryption; the privacy policy does not support that claim. Take the policy, not the marketing. Account deletion takes 24 to 48 hours.

Both ban minors, real-person deepfakes and illegal material, and both may require ID or age estimation in some regions. OurDream's Automod tool admits in its own copy that it is currently too sensitive, so expect false positives on harmless prompts.

Our scores on privacy are 7.2 and 6.9. Neither is a vault. Keep your real identity out of chats on both.

Payments and refunds

Candy takes Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer and crypto. The refund rule is tight: within 24 hours, 20 tokens or fewer used, card payments only. EU and UK users get a 14-day prorated withdrawal right under local law.

OurDream takes cards and crypto, with G2A codes as a fallback. No PayPal. Refunds are case by case within 14 days, and the company denies them once more than 25 percent of the product is used.

Crypto payments are final on both platforms. Refund rules change; check the current policy before you pay. Neither platform runs a native iPhone or Android app. Both are browser-based, and both can be added to your home screen.

Who should pick which

Pick Candy.ai if:

• You care most about image quality and consistent faces.
• You want the lowest paid entry price at $3.99 per month yearly.
• You want a 13-language interface.
• You mostly chat and only occasionally generate media.

Pick OurDream AI if:

• You want video up to 60 seconds and audio add-ons.
• You want group scenes with multiple characters.
• You will generate dozens of images a month and want the lower per-image cost.
• You want dreamcoins that do not expire and a published coin price list.

Final verdict

OurDream AI is the better value for most paying users: unlimited messages, 1,000 dreamcoins a month, longer video, deeper creation tools and no coin expiry. Candy.ai is the better product if polished, fast images are the whole point and you want to spend as little as possible to start.
