Muah AI vs Candy AI: Which Adult AI Companion Should You Pay For?
Muah AI and Candy AI both promise adult chat with pictures. One has better images and a cleaner privacy record; the other gives you more control...
Candy AI is cheaper and looks better. Joi AI has the bigger cast. Neither remembers your story for long. Here is the honest split, with real numbers.
Two paid AI companion apps, one decision. Candy.ai and Joi AI look similar from the outside: web chat, generated adults, subscription plus a media currency that burns faster than you expect. The differences show up in the fine print and the bill.
Short version: Candy.ai wins on price, image quality and voice. Joi AI wins on character variety and gives you a video tool inside the chat. Memory is a tie, and that tie is bad news for both.
| Category | Joi AI | Candy.ai | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $17.77/mo reported | $13.99/mo | Candy |
| Annual price | About $5.08/mo ($60.95/yr, reported) | $3.99/mo ($47.88/yr) | Candy |
| Character library | Larger, many looks and types | Smaller, strong consistency | Joi |
| Image quality | Fast but uneven | Among the most realistic | Candy |
| Voice | Weak or disputed | Messages, beta calls, better | Candy |
| Memory | Forgets long-chat details reported | Resets after 48 to 72 hours reported | Tie |
| Refunds | 14 days, narrow cases | 24 hours, max 20 tokens spent | Joi |
We rate Candy.ai 9.8 out of 10. Its images score 10, its memory 7.2. Those two numbers tell most of the story.
Joi AI is run by Novi Limited, a company in Nicosia, Cyprus. Novi also sells EVA AI, so the same operator is running more than one companion brand. Ofcom named Joi in about 6.5 million monthly users globally at the end of 2025, which makes it one of the larger players in this market.
Candy.ai is operated by EverAI Limited, a Maltese company. It is the smaller, more focused product: fewer characters, more effort per character. Both run in a browser. Candy also works as a PWA you can install to a home screen. Neither has a native app in the app stores.
| Feature | Joi AI | Candy.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Uncensored chat | Yes, adults only | Yes, paid plans |
| Image generation | Premium plus Neurons | About 4 tokens per image |
| Video | Tool inside chat | Image-to-video, Live Action |
| Voice messages | Not confirmed | Yes |
| Character builder | Looks and personality sliders | Detailed Create My AI builder |
| Unlimited chat | No, some messages cost Neurons | Yes, on Premium |
| Group chat | Not documented | Not documented |
| Native app | No (web) | No (web, PWA) |
Both platforms gate adult content behind an 18+ onboarding age check. Neither publishes documented filter levels, so you cannot dial explicitness up or down the way some forums claim. Candy bans minor-like content and reports abuse material to NCMEC. It also bans real-person likenesses, which kills the "my ex but nicer" use case. On Candy, free users cannot reach 18+ media at all.
Joi's age checks got regulatory attention. Ofcom probed Joi's age assurance in January 2026. Novi added age verification, and the case closed on July 31, 2026 with no findings. That is a closed file, not a clean bill of health forever.
If you want a companion that remembers a storyline for weeks, neither product is built for it. Candy.ai resets memory after 48 to 72 hours, according to user reports. Joi characters forget details from long chats, also per user reports.
Candy Premium Plus bundles user personas and 20 memory slots, which helps. It does not turn the app into a long-form narrative engine. Joi's approach leans on the character card and the model's context, and it shows the seams once a chat runs long.
For comparison, Secrets AI makes memory the selling point and charges accordingly. Our Secrets AI review covers what that costs.
Candy is the visual product. One image costs about 4 tokens, and an image-to-video conversion costs about 12. Users report Live Action clips running up to 120 seconds. Voice messages work, and voice calls are in beta at about 3 tokens per minute. Candy's marketing claims consistency across 30+ generations; treat that as a vendor claim, but the images do hold a character's face better than Joi's in most user reports.
Joi's media pricing is the problem. The terms allow video views up to 1,900 Neurons. Reviewers report live video calls near 2,000 Neurons for five minutes. Reading a romantic message costs 4 Neurons under the terms. At 500 Neurons for $12.69, that adds up fast: a five-minute video call can cost more than a month of the subscription.
Joi's voice features are weak or disputed. Reviewers could not confirm voice messages, and the video tool inside chat is expensive rather than convenient.
Joi wins on sheer variety. Reviewers cite a claim of 300+ preset characters, and the range of looks and types is the reason people pick it. Your first custom character comes with Premium. Extra characters reportedly cost 1,000 Neurons, or $12.70 to $25.40 depending on pack size. That is real money per character.
Candy starts custom characters from scratch for about 10 tokens. The Create My AI builder is more detailed than Joi's sliders, and the smaller library means less scrolling through filler.
| Plan | Joi AI reported | Candy.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $17.77/mo | $13.99/mo |
| 3 months | $26.66 (about $8.89/mo) | $26.97 ($8.99/mo) |
| 12 months | $60.95 (about $5.08/mo) | $47.88 ($3.99/mo) |
| Media currency | Neurons, from 500 for $12.69 | 100 tokens/mo, packs from $9.99 per 100 |
Joi has no public pricing page we could find. Prices vary by region, so the monthly figure is a reported number, not a quote. One site claims $2.38/mo annual for Joi; we could not confirm that, and the reported $60.95 annual works out to about $5.08/mo. Ignore the $2.38 figure until Joi publishes it.
The bigger issue is the double dip. Joi charges a subscription and then charges Neurons for some messages, media and extras. Typical reported extra Neuron spend runs $15 to $30 monthly. Candy gives unlimited chat on Premium, so the subscription is the chat. Heavy media users on Candy report bills of $25 to $80 monthly once the 100-token monthly allowance runs dry. That allowance does run dry fast: 25 images and it is gone.
Set a monthly budget before you pay either one. Candy's token math is easier to predict because 4 tokens per image is a fixed number. Joi's Neuron costs vary by action, which makes the bill harder to forecast.
Candy's free tier gives five messages, one image and one custom character. Five messages will not tell you much about memory, and free users cannot reach 18+ media.
Joi's free tier gives 10 Neurons plus a Discord bonus and daily rewards, per user reports. It is enough to see the interface. It is not enough to judge a $17.77 subscription.
Neither platform publishes an independent security audit that we could find. That is the headline.
Candy says it follows GDPR, encrypts data in transit, and makes no end-to-end encryption claim. De-identified chat may be used to train models, and records are kept up to three years after inactivity. You can delete your account through the Danger Zone in Settings. Statements on your card read EverAI.
Joi uses chats to develop its AI, and we found no opt-out. There is no end-to-end encryption and no fixed retention period. Novi says it does not sell user info, but a chargeback may lead to chats being disclosed. Joi charges reportedly show as joi.com, which is worth knowing if you share a card.
Practical rules for either platform: use a separate email, skip your real name and photos, and set a hard monthly budget. Neither is a private diary.
Joi allows refunds within 14 days, but only for fraud, mistaken purchase, or termination by Joi. That is narrower than it sounds.
Candy gives you 24 hours, card payments only, and only if you have spent 20 tokens or fewer. EU and UK users get a prorated 14-day right under consumer law. Everyone else has one day.
Pick Candy.ai if: you care about image quality, want voice and short video without a second currency, and prefer unlimited chat for a flat $13.99. It is the safer pick for most adults. Our full Candy.ai review has the category breakdown.
Pick Joi AI if: the character library is the point for you, you want video inside the chat, and you are willing to cap Neuron spending. Budget the subscription plus $15 to $30 in Neurons and decide whether that total is still worth it.
Skip both if: you want a companion that holds a storyline for weeks. Neither does. Memory on Candy resets in 48 to 72 hours; Joi forgets long-chat details. You would be paying for a reset button.
First, a naming trap. "AI JOI" is a guided adult roleplay format. It has nothing to do with the Joi AI brand. If you searched for one and landed on the other, you are not alone, and the two get confused in forums constantly.
If budget matters more than polish, SpicyChat advertises 300,000+ characters and a roundup puts it at $5/mo; our data shows $5.95 since September 8, 2026. GirlfriendGPT is about $10/mo in roundups; our data shows $15 monthly or $12 yearly. Character AI has millions of characters but no NSFW. OurDream AI sells unlimited roleplay with cheap images and a lot of fine print; our OurDream AI review explains where the catch sits.
None of these fix the memory problem. If long-term continuity is what you want, pay for a platform that sells it.
Candy.ai is the better default: cheaper at every tier, better images, real voice, unlimited chat, and a refund window that is short but at least defined. Joi AI is the better catalog, with the larger cast and in-chat video, as long as you treat Neurons as a separate budget line and watch the video costs.
Test the free tiers first. Read the privacy policies before you type anything personal. Decide your monthly cap before the first charge, because both products are designed to make the next pack feel small.
On annual billing, Candy.ai is $3.99/mo ($47.88/yr) against a reported $5.08/mo for Joi ($60.95/yr). Monthly, Candy is $13.99 versus a reported $17.77. The real difference is media: Joi charges Neurons on top of the subscription, and Candy's free 100-token monthly allowance runs out fast for heavy image users.
Candy.ai. Its images score 10 out of 10 in our rating, and user reports say the face stays consistent across generations better than Joi's. Joi's images are fast but uneven, and every one costs Neurons.
Joi AI for variety and story flow, since its library is much larger and the presets cover more types. Candy.ai is better if you want consistent visuals for one character. Neither holds a storyline for weeks: Candy's memory resets after 48 to 72 hours and Joi forgets long-chat details.
No. Both are web-based, and Candy also works as a PWA you can install to a phone home screen. Neither is in the App Store or Google Play.
No. Joi AI is a companion platform run by Novi Limited in Cyprus. AI JOI is a guided adult roleplay format that predates the brand, and the two get confused constantly in search results and forums.
